How Can I Eat Less And Keep From Being Hungry?

I’m trying to lose a few pounds, and I’ve been trying to eat less at meals and not eat snacks in between meals. The problem is, I get really hungry at about 3:00 PM because I haven’t eaten since lunch at about 11:30. What can I do to control my hunger so I can still lose weight? And also, what are some good, lowfat foods to eat?
Thanks.

I usually eat a few times througout the day….I have a morning snack and afternoon snack so I don’t get hungry. Maybe a cereal bar, or veggies/fruit, hummus, popcorn. If you eat a few small meals a day you won’t be as hungry and still should lose weight.

They key is to eat smarter (not saying you are eating dumb!). Experts recommend 4 – 6 small meals a day, versus 3 large ones. If you eat less, more frequently, your body is less likely to become hungry AND it spends more time constantly processing/metabolising the food you have eaten, so your metabolism burns at a higher rate (then at rest) for a longer period of time.
When you eat just 3 meals a day, with many hours in between, your metabolism goes up (to process that food) then down until you eat again…instead of staying at a more constant higher rate when you eat more frequently.
Also, eat things high in fiber and water content. The fiber will help keep you feeling “full” and the high water content foods (like fresh fruits and veggies) tend to have less calories.

If you are looking to loose weight, eating less won’t help. When you are hungry, your body is telling you that you need to eat. Try to balance out what you eat, while also working out. If you starve yourself, than your body goes into “starvation mode”, which means, whatever you eat from that point on, a majority of it will be stored as fat, because of the lack of nutrients before. Try eating small meals throughout the day instead, and not just three big meals. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

What is recommended is that you eat smaller meals more often. I would say eating even every 3 hours.
Also it is important to eat a big breakfast. It gives you the fuel to keep you going through the day and wont’ make you as hungry later on.
They say snacking on things like almonds are very good for you and refuel you. Think of yourself as a car. You need gas to keep you going! We obtain our energy through food! Keep it simple and don’t eat twinkies every 3 hours but heatlthy fruits and veggies! You can even indulge in some sweets every now and then just dont’ over indulge! good luck :)

instead of just eating 3 meals in one day, why don’t you take 6 small meals in one day that’s properly spaced out, like every 3 hours, so you don’t end up getting hungry.. coz the case is, if you like eat lunch at 11.30 then wait until dinner, you could end up getting very starved, and instead eating a LOT for dinner.. so instead, have several meals spaced out throughout the day.. and taking in lots of fiber also helps because they make you feel more full.. try apples as snacks :) )

Try to eat more (yes I said more), but spread that out over 5 meals a day instead of 3. When you eat less your body goes into survival mode and slows down. You do not lose the fat, but actually lose lean muscle which is not good. You should be eating something every 3 hours or so. Small amount of protein and a veggie. For a snack eat an apple, nuts, banana, etc. Stop drinking sodas. No starches (potatoes, pasta, white bread, etc).
Exercise – Walk at least 30 minutes a day. This is not a stroll. Brisk walk. Try doing some aerobics at home. Walk on treadmill. Swim.
Careful with the “lowfat” foods because they are full of sugar. That is how they make them taste good without the fat.
Spicy foods will increase your metabolism as well.

eat little by little on regular intervals, include a balance types in your diets like fruits, salads, grains, juices and drink plenty of water. dont skip morning breakfast, make sure dinner is 2 hours before you go to sleep and drink plenty of water. Salad with yougurt is the best diet food u can have because it has all you need. Hot tomato soup is a good and healthy way to control hunger. Eat brown breads instead of white…
i ahve done these things myself with positive results. If you want really quick diet then visit this page and try it out…. http://mihirsangani.blogspot.com/2008/03…

Popcorn or an apple, and lots of water. Works for me, the water really makes you full. But I wouldn’t starve myself if I were you. Just eat healthy proportions and the right foods and you’ll be fine.

Eat protein along with complex carbs while limiting sugar. Examples are oatmeal, brown basmati rice, and All Bran cereal. You need to start it at breakfast and continue into lunch. Don’t worry about lowfat — that’s so 80s.

You and try using some mints or something sugar free in between meals. I do that sometimes and it distracts me from being hungry. You can maybe eat a snack like a fat free pudding or yogurt.
