I’ve always wondered this. You order steamed chicken with broccoli, which is absolutely disgusting without that mysterious sauce. What’s in it?

Probably oyster sauce – which despite its name, has nothing to do with oysters.
It’s basically a thin chicken gravy made with soy sauce, chicken broth and corn starch.
Oyster sauce can be found in the Ethnic Aisle of most larger grocery stores, or (obviously) at any Asian grocery store.
