If You Eat Less Than 1200 Cal Does Your Body Retain Fat?

I am 16/ female/176 kg and I am 6′2.
I want to loose a little weight from my thighs and stomach.
I have been limiting my portion sizes and my snacks and have actually found it really easy to stay under 1200 calories but I recently heard that If you eat less than 1200 cals then your body actually goes into ’starvation’ mode and retains fat.
Can anyone give me a confirmation of this or advice?

You’re tall so you should be getting around 2000, but it depends on how active you are.

Exercising for an hour a day will speed up the weightloss process, just remember to eat back the calories you burned. I’ve recently discovered the reason I’m not losing weight is because I’m eating little after exercising.
Oh and yes under 1200 calories can put your body into starvation mode.
Cardio is your best option from losing stomach and thigh weight. Having muscular thighs isn’t a bad thing. I like having muscle there instead of fat. I’ve been walking, jogging and junping on my trampoline for over two months and my legs are just muscle and are still skinny. The thighs are getting there and I’ve lost alot of stomach fat too. I do sit ups too which gives it a nice tone.

this depends. if your thin your body could, if your bigger your body may hit platues and all that but thats normal if your losing weight its good even tho 1500 is a good number but if you do everything in moderation than your good

You can’t pick a certain number of calories and tell everyone that’s how many you have to eat. Everyone’s metabolism is different. I, for one, gain weight if I eat over 1000 calories a day. And my doctor knows that Iimit myself to 1000. She said that “starvation mode” for me would be 900 calories. I lose weight fine if I keep it around 1000, but if I go over that, I gain. I can imagine how much I would gain if I ate 2000 a day like some of these others are saying. If you are losing weight eating your 1200 calories, then keep it up. If you’re not, try dropping 100 calories at a time till you reach your “loss level.”

brisk walk an hour daily and binge on fresh fruits and ice green tea for snacks..try to take up to 1600-1700 calories a day..you can burn better..remember that your body metabolizes calories 24/7

you should eat around 1500 calories and just exercise a little more. that will keep you out of “starvation mode” but you will still be losing a significant amount of weight. good luck!
p.s. make sure that you are eating the right foods also. keeping calories low will work best if you are eating foods like fruits, veggies, lean meats, and water.

Yes this send your body into starvation mode, which actually helps you gain fat. You should actually in take around 2000 to 2400 a day based on you weight and height. Uhm, it really depends on your metabolism and size. I think you would pretty much have to get a body composition analysis and determine what you need to take in every day. Its definitely true that if you don’t eat enough to fuel your body that it goes into conserve mode though.
Hate to give you a cliche, but if you exercise enough, you’ll be able to eat what you want rather than what some food scale tells you.
